A Summer Bonanza on Youth Skills Development

A Careers Day in Law with Weightmans at the Teviot Centre

It has been a dynamic and impactful summer season at Leaders in Community (LiC). Between May and September 2025, young people engaged in a wide range of professional, creative, and cultural opportunities that showcased their growth and potential. From corporate partnerships to cultural outings and youth-led initiatives, each moment reflected the power of collaboration and the brilliance of our young people.

Pivotal to these opportunities is the work of our Projects and Partnerships Lead, Job Kabamba who with our partners successfully delivered this bonanza of summer youth programmes.

Highlights of Summer 2025:

  • 29 May – Global Bank Takeover Day at the Teviot Centre
An international city bank hosted an inspiring takeover day, bringing their expertise and energy directly to our centre. Young people gained invaluable insights into the world of finance and professional careers.

  • 6–8 August – Hindleap Warren Residential
A transformative residential experience at Hindleap Warren. Young people engaged in challenging outdoor activities while deepening their bonds. It also built teamwork, resilience, and confidence.
  • 11–29 August – Personal Development & Hackathon Training
Throughout August, young people explored essential employability skills and prepared for future careers.  A new initiative was also launched: introducing young people to the concept of hackathons and empowering them to create their own apps using AI tools. As part of their training, young people were tasked with reviewing LiC’s partner organisations, selecting a sector or company of interest, analysing their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) needs, and designing a youth-led CSR initiative. The goal: to pitch these initiatives back to partners with the ambition of securing consultancy opportunities, where young people act as CSR consultants and LiC receives a commissioning fee. This project not only develops entrepreneurial and digital skills (SKYUP) but also positions young people as co-creators of meaningful corporate impact. The work will culminate in a live Hackathon event at the Teviot Centre in October half term, where young people will present their solutions directly to partners.

  • 13 August – Platinum took part in Food for thought at the Teviot Centre

The Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) captured footage of our young people in action: cooking, collaborating in our café, and preparing for the upcoming hackathon. This showcased the creative and entrepreneurial spirit thriving at LiC; and the delivery of the Mayor’s new Holiday of Hope programme

27 August – Telehouse South Building Insight Day
Young people visited Telehouse’s South Building for a powerful insight day. They engaged with multiple staff members, toured the site, and deepened their understanding of the tech and data centre industry. Building on knowledge gained from ABB the previous week, participants impressed Telehouse staff with their curiosity, asking insightful questions about how ABB and Telehouse work together. This connection between experiences highlighted the strength of LiC’s structured learning journey.
  • 28 August – LiC Brand Ambassador Pitch to the CEO
In response to a request from Syed, LiC young people had just three hours to prepare and pitch themselves as brand ambassadors. The exercise tested and demonstrated the professional skills they had developed over the summer, from presentation to persuasion.
  • 5 September – Trip to Frameless
Thanks to the VRU and LiC alumna Asha, our young people enjoyed a fantastic cultural experience at Frameless – An Immersive Art Experience. Alumni from across 2022–2025 joined, making it a multigenerational celebration of creativity and community.

From law and finance to technology, the arts, and youth leadership, Summer 2025 exemplified the breadth of opportunities LiC creates for young people. These experiences not only equipped them with skills and networks but also reinforced our commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.

We would like to thank all our partners for your time and ongoing commitment to the delivery our youth programmes.
