Stronger Minds: Your Guide to Wellbeing and Mental Health

Growing up in Tower Hamlets comes with its own unique set of pressures. Whether it’s stress from school, worries about the future, navigating relationships, or just the everyday challenges of life in East London, it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes. You are not alone, and feeling down or anxious is not something you have to figure out by yourself.

At Leaders in Community (LiC), we know that true power starts with how you feel inside. When you feel strong, connected, and supported, you are better equipped to shape your own life and the community around you. That is why we are proud to introduce the Stronger Minds Young People’s Booklet—a practical, no-nonsense guide designed specifically for young people in our borough.

What is the Stronger Minds Booklet?

The Stronger Minds booklet is not a textbook or a lecture. It is a toolkit created to help you understand your mental health, recognise when you or a friend might be struggling, and find the right support when you need it.

Inside the booklet, you will find:

  • Clear Information: Easy-to-understand explanations of what mental health actually is, and how things like stress, anxiety, and low mood can affect your body and mind.
  • Practical Tools: Grounding techniques and everyday habits you can use to manage stress and build resilience.
  • Myth-Busting: We break down common misconceptions about mental health, challenging the stigma that often stops people from talking about how they feel.
  • Signposting: A comprehensive list of local and national support services, helplines, and resources, so you always know where to turn.

Why We Created This

LiC is rooted in the Teviot Centre and the wider Poplar community. We see firsthand the incredible potential of young people here, but we also see the barriers that can get in the way. Mental health is a crucial part of our Stronger Minds campaign, which focuses on building trust, belonging, and the confidence to take part in community life.

We believe that mental wellbeing is not just a personal issue; it is a community issue. When we talk openly about mental health, we make our neighbourhoods safer, more supportive spaces for everyone. This booklet is part of our commitment to ensuring you have the knowledge and tools to take care of yourself and look out for your peers.

Working Together for Tower Hamlets

The Stronger Minds programme is a collaborative effort. We are delivering this project in partnership with Well One and Inspirited Minds, combining our deep roots in youth leadership with specialist mental health expertise. Together, we are working across schools and community spaces in Tower Hamlets to reduce stigma, improve mental health literacy, and ensure that every young person knows that their feelings matter.
